Now the construction workers and their dependents would be eligible to get benefit of financial aid at the same time from two departments as has been extended to them under various welfare schemes like Scholarship scheme, Shagun scheme, Cycle scheme etc. Earlier construction workers were eligible to get such financial benefits only from one department, now with this decision the construction workers besides taking financial aid under these schemes from Punjab Construction Workers’ Welfare Board can take same aid from other departments too.Disclosing this an official spokesperson of the Labour department said that decision in this regard has been taken in the 23 meeting of the Punjab Construction Workers’ Welfare Board held under the chairmanship of Mr. Chunni Lal Bhagat, Labour Minister, Punjab. He said that the decision with this regard  was taken in light of the decision taken in the 8th meeting of the Punjab Construction Workers’ Welfare Board held on March 8, 2013.  The Minister has issued instructions to accelerate the process of cycle distribution to the children’s of Construction Workers so that they can commute easily to school, colleges and back home. Mr. Bhagat also directed the Ms. United India Insurance to print the Health Cards at fast pace so that construction workers may avail the benefits extended to them under Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Scheme.Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Mr. Vishwajeet Khanna, Principal Secretary Labour Department, Mr. Tejinder Singh Dhaliwal, Labour Commissioner-cum-Secretary Board and other senior officers of the Labour Department.
