Chronic kidney disease, which is also termed as  chronic kidney failure, is the process in which the functionality of the kidney reduces gradually to complete failure.

Some symptoms can help you recognize chronic kidney disease:

In the early stages of chronic kidney disease, you may have few signs or symptoms and it is possible that you may not realise that you have kidney disease until the condition is advanced & advanced chronic kidney disease can cause unnecessary and dangerous levels of fluid, electrolytes and waste to build up in your body.

Chronic kidney disease can progress to the end stage of kidney failure:

Chronic kidney disease can progress to end-stage kidney failure, which is fatal without artificial filtering or kidney transplantation whose treatment usually focuses on controlling the cause and slowing the progression of kidney damage.

The main function of the kidney is to balance the amount of water in the body. The kidney regulates the amount of salt and water in the body. In chronic kidney disease, kidney function gradually decreases. This problem is seen more in women and the elderly. Apart from this, the kidney maintains the chemical balance in the body by filtering the excess water.

Detoxification the prime functionality of the Kidney :

An important function of the kidney is to remove waste, dirt and toxic substances from the body. The role of the kidney is very important in detoxifying the body. The kidney works by throwing out the glucose and protein obtained from the body, which is very important for health.

Various researches conclude towards the numerous reasons for chronic Kidney disease:

There are many reasons for having chronic kidney disease, the most prominent being diabetes and obesity. Apart from this, high blood pressure, family history related to kidney, stones and excessive use of antibiotics are included. Statistics show that about 195 million women are suffering from this disease worldwide and almost six lakh women are dying due to this disease every year.

Key points to keep in mind for Kidneys better functionality :

  • Regular exercise is needed to maintain health.

  • Persons with diabetes have the higher risk of kidney disease. So, one must be careful about its control.

  • Do not let the blood pressure level rise.

  • Consume a healthy diet & maintain healthy weight.

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day.

  • Consume a considerable amount of water throughout the day.

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day.

  • Consume a considerable amount of water throughout the day.

  • Stay hydrated throughout the day.

  • Consume a considerable amount of water throughout the day.

  • People suffering from diabetes & hypertension, should get their kidneys checked regularly.

  • People should be aware of ignoring urine infection.

  • One should avoid delaying the treatment of stones. 3 to 4 mm size stones can be cleared with the help of urine pressure.

  • A person should not delay in urinating by holding it.

  • Salt consumption is a very concerning thing, one should be careful about, more than 5 grams in a day can be problematic.

  • Consuming more soda can provide little help in this disease.

  • Proper size of the kidney stone can be identified by ultrasound easily available in labs or hospitals with nominal charges.

New algorithm developed by Colombian researchers to analyse genome types

A new algorithm developed by Columbia University researchers can analyse thousands of genome types and predict a person's risk of developing chronic kidney disease – and it works in people of African, Asian, European and Hispanic descent.

According to physician-scientist Krzysztof Kiriluk:

Krzysztof Kiriluk, MD, associate professor of medicine and physician-scientist in the department of nephrology at Columbia University's Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, said that with this polygenic method, we are able to identify people at risk decades before the onset of kidney disease. and people at high risk can make protective lifestyle changes to reduce that risk.

Research would be useful in reducing the need for transplant or dialysis:

Early detection of kidney disease can prevent many cases of kidney failure and reduce the need for transplant or dialysis.

APOL1 can also control dangerous chronic kidney risk such as:

The study also confirmed that APOL1 is an important risk factor in people of African descent. But even if APOL1 is present in a person, other genes may increase or decrease the risk of developing chronic kidney disease. This information could be important when new drugs are developed specifically for people with APOL1. Krzysztof Kiriluk and his team described their method and tested it on 15 different groups of people, including people of European, African, Asian and Hispanic descent, in a new study published in Nature Medicine, using the algorithm called APOL1. analysed variants of the gene, known to be a common cause of kidney disease in people of African descent, and thousands of other kidney disease variants found in people of all races.
