On Monday Alcaraz will rise to a career high No.6 in the new ranking as he was ranked 120 in the world just a year ago. Spain's 19-year-old tennis player Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest man ever to win the Masters 1000 event in Madrid. Carlos defeated world number-1 Novak Djokovic to enter the final of Madrid Open. He is the youngest person to beat the world's No. 1 tennis player in the last 17 years. He had also defeated former world number-1 Rafael Nadal in the tournament earlier. With this, he became the first player to win consecutive wins over Nadal and Djokovic in a clay court tournament. Along with this, he also became the youngest player to make it to the final of Madrid Masters at the age of 19 years and 2 days.Carlos turned 19 three days ago and on the very next day i.e., on May 6, he had achieved the feat of defeating Nadal, who won 21 Grand Slams. He became the first teenager to defeat Nadal on clay court. Carlos has made it to the final of his second ATP Masters tournament within 5 weeks.The 19-year-old Carlos defeated current world No. 1 Djokovic 6-7(5/7), 7-5, 7-6(7/5) in the semi-finals of the Madrid Open. 

This is his first win over Djokovic.Alkaraj has won seven matches against the top-10 players in this season. He will face defending champion Alexander Zverev in the final of the Madrid Open. Zverev defeated Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the second semi-final. To this the 19-year-old said, "I don't think so. Tomorrow I will go for the finals as I did in Miami. I am really happy to play the second Masters 1000 final. I will say that now I am all set to compete against the top tennis players in the world."

Djokovic praised Carlos

This 19-year-old player from Spain won the ATP-1000 title in the Miami Open this year. After this, he also won the Barcelona Open in April. Djokovic was also very impressed with this Tanger. He said after the match, “Alkaraj handled the pressure well. It is really surprising for a player of this age to play with such maturity and courage. He deserved to win. I also got a lot of chances in the match. It was a really strong collision. But I am disappointed for not being able to capitalise on the opportunity." Outstanding Season “I consider myself a player that’s playing well,” Alcaraz said. “The numbers speak by themselves. I think I am doing quite well on clay right now.” Adding more he exerted, “I don’t consider myself the best player in the world. I think that tomorrow I’m going to be sixth, so I still have five players in front of me to be the best one."

Carlos Alcaraz was born on 5 May 2003 in El Palmar, a village in Murcia, Spain to parents Carlos and Virginia.
