In a major action, a joint team of SBS Nagar Administration and Police have recovered 1616 cases of English Whisky stored illegally in a private place worth Rs one crore on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in Rahon town of the district.Divulging the further details, Deputy Commissioner-cum- District Election Officer, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, Vishesh Sarangal said that acting on tip-off, a joint team comprised of Excise Department, CIA Satff and Rahon Police Station searched a premises situated near Dana Mandi in Rahon town falling under Nawanshahr Assembly Segment.During the raid, team found a 1616 cases which included Patiala Peg, McDowell No. 1 and Officers Choice Blue with labelled as for sale in Punjab stored there.

SSP Kanwardeep Kaur added that as per record, a total of 1616 cases were recovered including 730 cases of Patiala Peg (For Sale in Punjab), 390 cases of McDowell No.1 (For Sale in Punjab) and 496 cases of Officers Choice Blue (for sale in Punjab).She said that a case has been registered in this regard and added that further investigation is on and the owner of the building Satish Kumar has been taken in custody for questioning. SSP said the police teams who accompanied by ETO Raj Kumar and Excise Inspectors Manjit Singh and Harjinder Singh, included CIA Staff Incharge Dalbir Singh and Rahon Poilice Station SHO Bakshish Singh.Sarangal applauded the Excise and Police Departments for the recovery of these liquor cases which were supposed to be meant for alluring the voters during the ongoing electiona and termed it a big achievement.He said that district administration would keep a close vigil on such illegal activities to make the elections process free, fair and transparent in the district.
