Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital, Sangrur in concert with IMA Sangrur chapter held a huge cyclothon with the purpose of spreading Cancer awareness. The event had a mass gathering of upwards of four thousand people and saw an enthusiastic response from youngsters who gathered in huge numbers to participate in this noble cause and highlight Cancer awareness.Before the start of the event, Singla held a moment of silence in remembrance of the braveheart Shaheed Commando Varinder Singh. Singla said there were no words to describe the gratitude he felt towards the Shaheed for his supreme sacrifice and saluted his indomitable spirit.Taking over the stage, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kapoor director of Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital, Sangrur on the occasion said it was the need of the hour that people of Punjab and Sangrur were made aware about the early detection of cancer and how it is the most effective way to fight cancer. He congratulated his colleagues leading the early detection program in Sangrur and the great work they had done in this regard. He shared the stage with other dignitaries and eminent personalities of Sangrur and sitting MLA and Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla.

While addressing the audience all eminent personalities stressed on the need for Cancer awareness. Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla took it one step further and elaborated the steps Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital had taken to ensure the best quality treatment for the people of Sangrur. Singla said he was extremely pleased that the best doctors from all over India were working here and that the best Cancer care and treatment of international standards was available to all patients. On top of that, up to 95% of patients recieved free treatment and even medicines were available on 70% discount, ensuring that even the poorest would have access to the best quality healthcare in Sangrur.Dr. Prof Rakesh Kapoor complimented Singla for his service to the people of Sangrur and said it was akin to Seva. He concluded by saying Sangrur had become the foremost Medicity of the region, with people from different states flocking here for treatment. Sangrur boasts of the only PGI satelite centre outside of Chandigarh, the only Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital outside of Mumbai and has recently seen a new Government Medical College being established at Ghabdan to supplement the PGI also at the same location. 

In response to this, Singla in a display of humility mentioned that it was the doctors who had contributed the most and he was just pleased he was able to do his seva to the people of Sangrur by helping in the establishment of state of the art supporting infrastructure to ensure seamless and hassle-free healthcare for the people of Sangrur.Singla, accompanied by Director of Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital, representatives of the IMA and SSP Sangrur flagged off the cyclothon to a rousing reception as the youth took the lead and responsibly guided all participants through the route. After flagging off the Cyclothon, Singla visited the awareness canopies erected by Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital and made his contribution to Cancer Awareness and lead by example by engaging with youngsters and giving them proper guidance. After the Cyclothon finished, Singla personally presented finisher medals to the youngsters to recognise the zeal they had shown for such a noble cause.The Cyclothon left a deep impact as the thousands gathered were deeply touched by the work being done by the Homi Bhabha Cancer hospital in Sangrur and were also made aware about the early detection of Cancer. The main takeaway was that the people of Sangrur overwhelmingly lent their support to spreading Cancer awareness and combating it through its early detection.
