With the use of Geographic Information System (GIS) and digitisation the benefits of welfare schemes can be effectively delivered to people. Haryana is the first state in the country to implement the mapping project for people’s welfare. This was stated by Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya while addressing the 41st INCA International Conference on ‘Cartography for Self-Reliant India’ at Panjab University here today.Shri Dattatraya said the GIS is being implemented on a large scale in the entire 44,212 square km area of Haryana. A map system project has been started. By using this system, the people of the state are also being benefited in different areas by the state government. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has started a nationwide project in the form of ‘Svamitva Project.’ Under this scheme, ‘Lal Dora Mukt Yojana’ has also been started in the state for which the mapping work has been completed in 1239 villages so far.He said that the GIS has become a development base in the world today. It has helped us in ensuring economic progress in the country and the state, generating employment and dissemination of knowledge. 

In the field of GIS, employment opportunities have also increased immensely for our students. This mapping system is proving to be a milestone to increase e-economy, e-service and e-commerce in the country and provide facilities to the citizens.Shri Dattatraya said that the slogan of self-reliant-India has been given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the country. To realize this dream, ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan’ has been started under which dozens of schemes and programs have been introduced for micro, small scale industries, farmers, labourers and poor people.On this occasion, Shri Dattatraya also released the booklet of the Indian National Cartographic Association and inaugurated the Mapping Exhibition organized by the Association. In this conference, the Governor honoured the students who came first at the national level in the map competition and blessed them. In the national level map competition, Ms Kartikeya Sharma stood first, Ms Monaliak Das second, and Mr Akash Lair got third position.In this international conference, Surveyor General of the Government of India Shri Naveen Tomar, Chief Hydrographic Surveyor of the Government of India Vice Admiral Adhir Arora, Director of NIAS, Bengaluru, Dr Shailesh Nayak, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Prof Raj Kumar and President of Indian National Cartographic Association, Shri Krishna Mohan, also shared their thoughts.
