On the occasion of Police Martyrs Day today, the sacrifices of Police in the line of their duties were marked with solemnity at District Police Lines Pulwama and Ganderbal.As a mark of respect to brave police martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, the arms are reversed and two minutes of silence is observed in the honour of the departed souls. The names of police martyrs, police and paramilitary forces are read out, to acknowledge with pride the supreme sacrifices made by them.At Pulwama: A floral tribute was paid today by District Magistrate (DM) Pulwama, Baseer Ul Haq Chowdhary and district police officials for policemen who lost their lives over the past year, and the police flag was lowered as a silent prayer at the District Police Lines Pulwama.Calling it a moral duty to honour policemen, who often maintain law and order with little regard for their personal safety, the DM, said, “Not only must we salute policemen for their work, we must also ensure they get monetary support and other benefits even after their retirement.”He said it is because of the ongoing sacrifices of our men and women that we continue to enjoy an atmosphere of peace, security and prosperity in the district. Today once again we respectfully remember their sacrifices and salute our real life heroes of Police.Later the DM inaugurated the Police Martyr Memorial Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball tournament and distributed blankets among the next of kin’s of deceased families in presence of SSP Pulwama, and other paramilitary officers.

At Ganderbal: The SSP Ganderbal, Nikhil Borkar, paid a floral tribute to all martyrs of the Police of the country and two minutes’ silence was observed with a heavy heart.The function was held at District Police Lines Ganderbal, where contingents of District Police and Home Guard, especially Rakshatoli performed a silent parade on the beats of Pipe Band. PSI Ravi Kumar was Parade Commander and SSP Ganderbal took the salute on the Police Commemoration Day Parade.On the occasion SSP Ganderbal said, "The whole country is observing the Police Commemoration Day, we salute the courage, valour and sacrifices of our brave martyrs who laid their lives for the unity and integrity of the Nation and protecting the life and property of the people.He also added that J&K Police Dept is organising various sports events across the valley in the names of brave warriors who got martyrdom on the lines of duty".The function was followed by laying of wreaths and showering of flowers by DC Ganderbal, Kritika Jyotsna, DDC Chairperson Ganderbal Nuzhat Ishfaq, DDC Vice Chairman Bilal Ahmad Sheikh, Commandant CRPF 118BN Dr. Satyaveer Verma ,115BN  Pankaj Peter , Additional SP Ganderbal, SDPO Kangan, DySP HQRs Ganderbal, DySp PC Ganderbal, DySP DAR Ganderbal, DySp traffic Ganderbal, All SHOs and DOs Ganderbal,  jawans, guests and the members of Martyr’s families.SSP Ganderbal with Addl.SP Ganderbal distributed blankets among NOK’S of Police Martyrs. Moreover, SSP Ganderbal listened patiently to the grievances of Police Martyr families and assured them that the issues and problems pertaining to J&K Police Department will be followed for proper redressal and issues pertaining to civil administration will be taken up with civil administration for their redressal.
