Continuing its drive against the bootlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor, excise teams of Jalandhar and Ludhiana districts on Saturday succeeded in seizing 35000 liters of Lahan during search operation along the bank of river Satluj. The teams searched around areas of eight villages falling within the riverbed including Veran, Dharme Dian Chhanna, Bute Dian Chhana, Akkuwal, Gorshian Khan Mohammad in both the districts.Divulging the details, the Excise Officer Harjot Bedi said that on the directions of Assistant Commissioners (Excise) Jalandhar and Ludhiana Harsimrat Kaur and Rajesh Ahri the joint search was conducted under mission Red Rose. He said that during the operation 35000 liters of Lahan was recovered from these places following which an FIR was got registered against the accused Sarabjit Singh, a resident of Ludhiana district under at Mehatpur Police station. The Lahan was destroyed outside the bank of river Satluj.The EO also added that if was also observed that the illicit liquor was being made by using contaminated water which was being flown into river Satluj from the Buddha Nala. He also stated that such liquor is really dangerous for the health as it was being produced using sewerage water.Apart from Lahan, 60 bottle illicit liquor, 11 big iron drums, one aluminium utensil, 3 plastic pipes and woods, and a plastic tube was also recovered during the raids.He said that the department was on its mission against the smuggling, bootlegging and manufacturing of illegal liquor as a large number of raids have been conducted recently with massive recovery of illicit liquor, Lahan besides destroying working stills. The raid was conducted by joint teams comprising Excise Inspectors Resham Mahi, Ravinder Singh, Kamaljit Singh Cheema, Hardeep Singh Bains along with Police officials.
