Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister OP Soni said that administrative work has been completed for the establishment of 3 new Medical Colleges at Kapurthala, Hoshiarpur, and Mohali for the betterment of medical education and health facilities in the state. These medical colleges will be operational by the end of 2022.He said that a detailed project report has been submitted to the Union Government in this regard besides that Punjab Government has also released Rs. 40crore each for the medical colleges of Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala during the budget 2021-22.He said that presently there were about 1400 MBBS seats in medical colleges of Punjab which would witness 700 more with the opening of these 3 medical colleges.Accompanied by local MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh, Principal Secretary Health Mr. D.K. Tewari, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepti Uppal, SSP Mrs. Kanwardeep Kaur inspected the site of the newly proposed Medical College at some parts of the Civil Hospital and nearby places.Earlier, Principal Secretary Health and Public Works Department Senior Architects Tarun Garg, Creative Design Advisor Mandeep Kaur, Mohanbir Singh, and Deputy Commissioner Kapurthala briefed the cabinet minister about the design of the Medical College.Mr. Soni said that this medical college dedicated to the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji would cost Rs. 325 crores for which Rs. 40 crores has been released by the Punjab government.In addition to the 300-bed hospital, the medical college will also have a hostel, education college, residential complex, multi-story parking, etc.It may be mentioned here that Central Medical Commission has approved the recruitment of faculty and professors in the medical college, with which the classes of the medical college will start soon.Deputy Commissioner said that the medical college would be constructed in such a way that the health facilities with a capacity of at least 200 beds would be maintained so that there would be no problem in dealing with the covid and getting treatment to the general public.On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner General Mr. Rahul Chaba, SDM Virender Pal Singh Bajwa, Civil Surgeon Dr. Seema were also present.
