Secretary, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ganderbal, today visited Ganderbal district and took stock of demands and issues of public during 2nd Block Diwas being organized in all seven blocks of the district under Jan Abhiyan part of ambitious Back to Village programme.District Development Commissioner Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal, Director Rural Development Kashmir, ASP Ganderbal besides other district officers accompanied the Secretary.During her visit, the Secretary visited Ganderbal, Sherpathri and Kangan blocks where she took stock of status of ongoing efforts of local administration regarding providing governance to the public at their door steps.The event witnessed participation of people and PRI members of different Panchayats throughout the district who apprised the officers about their grievances and sought early redressal of the same.During her visit to block Ganderbal, Sheetal Nanda listened to the demands and issues raised by the people like de-silting of Gutlibagh Canal, road connectivity, up gradation of transformers, up gradation of PHC Shuhama, clearance of pending payments under MGNREGA and other related issues of public importance.At Block Ganderbal, the Secretary inspected the stalls installed by the line departments and enquired about the services being provided to the people regarding individual beneficiary schemes, social security schemes and other welfare schemes.

During her visit to these blocks, Sheetal Nanda handed over cheques worth Rs. 18.80 lakh among beneficiaries under different schemes besides distributing paddy thresher, sprayer, KCC passbooks, Artisan Cards, hearing aids, wheelchair, Income Certificates and Domicile Certificates among the beneficiaries.Addressing the gathering at Block Kangan, Sheetal Nanda said that the objective of observing Block Diwas is to take appraisal of local issues from the PRIs and general public for accurate and on ground assessment and redressal of the same.  She said that panchayats are free to utilize funds that have recently been issued to them (Rs 10 lakh) according to the needs and demands of the local population.On the occasion, the DDC highlighted the objective of the Jan Abhiyan saying that this grand public campaign is aimed at reaching out to the people for redressal of their grievances and addressing developmental issues. He said that all efforts are being made to provide best possible relief to the common masses during Jan Abhiyan and numerous initiatives are underway to strengthen the roads, power and PHE infrastructure in the district besides ensuring the provision of other amenities of life.He also appealed the general public of the district that on every day except Wednesday and Sunday, the people can register their grievances at his office between 10:30 am to 11:30 am.
