Member of Parliament and former Union Minister Manish Tewari reviewed the precautionary measures and development works taken to prevent possible floods at Balachaur. In a meeting held in the presence of Chaudhary Darshan Lal Mangupur, MLA and Pawan Dewan, Chairman, Punjab Large Industries Development Board, he directed the officers not to make any concessions in the arrangements made for the prevention of possible floods should be constantly monitored.Meanwhile, he sought details from the officials of Drainage and other concerned departments about the arrangements made for the prevention of floods on the Sutlej River and Dhusi Bandh and issued necessary guidelines. He said that special vigilance should be exercised in Bela Tajowal, Dugri, Khoja Bet and other sensitive areas affected by the floods of Balachaur sub-division last year and to ensure safety of lives and property in case of any emergency.On this occasion, SDM Balachaur Deepak Ruhela said that adequate arrangements have been made for the prevention of floods in sub-division Balachaur and no negligence would be used in the protection of citizens and monitoring of dams.Meanwhile, Tewari also reviewed the ongoing development works in the sub-division and the arrangements made for the prevention of Covid-19 and directed the officers to carry out all the works in a timely and smooth manner.He said that all precautions should be taken to prevent covid during the ongoing development works and strict adherence to the guidelines issued in this regard should be ensured. Meanwhile, the officials of the Sewerage Board said that 80 percent of the sewerage work in the city has been completed in the first phase and the proposal for the second phase has been prepared and sent.Tewari directed to complete the work of the first phase as soon as possible and start the work as soon as possible with the approval of the second phase. He also sought information from the officials of Water Supply and other departments about the ongoing development works. On this occasion Municipal Committee Balachaur President Tinku Ghai, Naib Tehsildar Ravinder Singh, BDPO Darshan Singh, officials of various departments were also present.
