Mansa Police inaugurated special campaign to eradicate the Drug menace on "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking"

The 26th of June is observed as "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" every year. It is a United Nations International Day against drug abuse and the illegal drug trade because the use of drugs is root cause of every crime.Senior Superintendent of Police Dr. Narinder Bhargav told that in compliance with the directions of Hon'ble Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amrinder Singh Ji and Director General of Punjab Shri Dinkar Gupta Ji, IPS, today "International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" was commemorated. In this respect, SSP Mansa flagged off an Anti Drug rally inaugurating this campaign (complying with due precautions regarding COVID-19).  Big hoardings, Banners and Posters were displayed at conspicuous places for the awareness of the public against Drug menace. Similarly, pamphlets were distributed to inspire the young and literate generation towards the sports and physical activities/works instead of indulging in drug abuse. SSP Mansa told that the Public is being inspired to avoid drugs by way of conducting awareness rallies (with due precautions), Seminars and by sending  bulk SMS to about 50 thousand persons.Dr. Bhargav further told that to abolish the drug abuse totally in the District,  District Police has already started a series of on-line Competitions. This on-line competition series has been divided into 4 categories, in the 1st category Essay writing (1200 to 1500 words), 2nd category Slogans, 3rd category Drawing & Painting and in the 4th category Music and Videos describing the bad results of Drugs are included.  

The participants obtaining 1st, 2nd and 3rd positions will be honoured with suitable prizes.SSP, Mansa also told that to curb the drug menace, the boundaries of District Mansa have already been sealed by way of Nakabandies Dr, Bhargav  said that in the previous year, during this campaign w.e.f. 26.6.2019 to 25.6.2020, total 596 cases under NDPS Act have been registered and 830 drug smugglers were arrested. From these smugglers, 1 Kg. 130 gm. Heroin  (Chitta), 16 Kg 842 gm opium,  738 kg. 445 gm. poppy husk, 43302 intoxicant pills, 23 kg 399 gm. Ganja, 156 gm. smack, 244 intoxicant bottles,  10 kg. 773 gm. Sulfa/Bhang and 379 gm. intoxicant powder have been recovered. Similarly, under Excise Act, 1175 cases have been registered and 1335 persons have been arrested. From these anti social elements, 46 Nos. of working still, 43710 ltr. Lahan, 2228 ltr. 840 ml. illicit liquor, 64967 ltr.750 ml. licit liquor, 252 ltr. 625 ml. English wine and 5832 ltr. of beer have been recovered. Dr. Bhargav told that Mansa Police has conducted 331 Drug De-addiction Seminars in various villages and cities of the District and 6474 drug addicts have been sent to OOAT Centers for treatment. Total 13279 Drug Abuse Prevention Officers are designated under DAPO Scheme and in the educational institutions, there are total19621 BUDDY Groups having 99667 BUDDYs. They all are bound to keep vigil eye to control the Drug menace.SSP, Mansa also said that in compliance of the orders of Government of Punjab, Zero Tolerance policy has already been adopted to curb the drug menace. Apart from taking strict action against smugglers and anti social elements involved in drug abuse, general public, especially the young generation, is being inspired to avoid every kind of drug so that a strong and well educated nation is built. So let us say "No to Drugs and Yes to Life" on this special day of international importance, SSP Mansa said.
