The Punjab Government has provided the free treatment services to more than 49,189 patients during lockdown in the empanelled hospitals under Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojna.Giving details in press communiqué, Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that Captain Amarinder Singh led Punjab Government is committed to provide quality health services across the State and despite the lockdown imposed to contain corona virus in State, about 35,628 E-cards have been generated by State Health Agency within 2 months (23 March to 20 May 2020) and at a cost of Rs. 43.85 crore, more than 49,189 patients have been treated. He said that instructions have been issued to the Civil Surgeons to expedite the procedure of generating E-cards so that maximum number of beneficiaries would get the benefits of flagship scheme of State Government.Underling the services given to the beneficiaries, the Minister said that as many as 726 patients have availed treatment of heart surgeries, 19,867 patients got dialysis, 1512 have undergone cancer treatment and 996 elderly patients have got joint replacement.

To get the free treatment services under Sarbat Sehat Bima Yojna, he clarified that first of all entitled beneficiary needs to generate a e-card after that he/she considered to be eligible to take benefit under this scheme. There are Arogya Mitras posted in every empanelled hospital who registers the beneficiary, generates his/ her e-card, in case if the beneficiary patient is not already issued e-card and facilitates cashless treatment in the hospital. In furtherance, to accelerate the procedure of generating e-cards, the Punjab Government has also hired new agency to accomplish the target.Notably, this pro-people insurance scheme does not classify the beneficiaries of family members on the basis of number, age or gender and cover all the eligible members of the beneficiary family. The main objective of the insurance scheme is to provide free of cost secondary & tertiary healthcare services to the people so that the economic burden on the family relating to high cost treatment could be curtailed.Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that with these concrete efforts made by State Government, Punjab now stood in row of leading states in India for providing quality health services. For more information and to check the eligibility, beneficiaries can log on to www.shapunjab.in.
