Under the campaign “Fasla di hovegi dhoa-dhuayi, Punjab Police karegi agvayi” launched by the district Police, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mansa Dr Narinder Bhargav on Thursday, personally visited village Bhaini Bagha of the district and listened to the problems being faced by the vegetable farmers.Dr Bhargav said that keeping close liaison with the villagers, the Village Police Officers (VPOs) with the help of village committees brought in his notice that in village Bhaini Bagha, the farmers have grown various type of vegetables in about 350 acres of land and they are not being able to sell their perishable crop amid curfew resulting in heavy losses to the farmers.Taking notice of the problem, SSP Mansa visited the fields of these farmers in village Bhaini Bagha and discussed this matter in detail with the farmers and representatives of farmer unions. They apprised the SSP that the vegetable and fruit crops like Capsicum, Pumpkin, Cucumber, Ridged gourd (Tori) and Strawberry are being cultivated by them which they use to sell in different parts of the states and also in Haryana, Delhi and Agra.They said that now due to curfew and lockdown, they are unable to send their crops in these markets for sale resulting in a huge financial loss to them.Dr Bhargav ensured the farmers and representatives of Kissan unions they won’t face any problem especially in respect of selling their crops. He appealed them to take proper precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19. He advised them that they should prepare plans and arrange Medium to heavy vehicles for transportation so that physical distances could be ensured. “Farmers should contact their VPOs and Village Welfare Committees so that inter-state passes could be issued to them to get better price of their produces by transporting these produce to other Mandis,” SSP added. He also despatched the vehicles loaded with vegetables by granting necessary permissions to them.Meanwhile, SSP Mansa said that from the date of imposing curfew till today, 86 cases have been registered, 179 persons have been arrested and 26 vehicles have been taken in police custody under section 269 and 188 of the IPC. Similarly, 282 vehicles have been impounded for violation of Section 207 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
