The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has notified Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI) Mohali as ‘State Agency’, which would provide Analytical Services in Agriculture, Food, Water & Environment sectors to all Government departments including boards, corporations, societies and cooperatives.Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson said that with the notification of PBTI as State Agency it would conduct analytical services for environmental monitoring including water, effluents, air, hazardous waste, solid waste, noise, weather, bio-burden, macro and micro nutrient profiling of soil & irrigation water, food adulterants, food authenticity, microbiological analysis, DNA fingerprinting/sequencing, virus indexing, pesticides, drug residues, nutritional profiling vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids and sugars etc. He said that the charges for analytical services would be approved by the Governing Council of the Society headed by the Chief Secretary. These charges will be paid by various departments for getting such services without any tendering process.The Spokesperson further pointed out that all the departments, boards, corporation, societies and cooperatives etc had been mandated to utilize the services of PBTI for all types of analytical services. The services of the private laboratories can only be utilised if the requisite once are not being provided by the PBTI.Pertinently, the PBTI took the lead in the country by setting up independent Honey Authenticity testing facilities, as a part of comprehensive Analytical facilities for Agri-Food & Environment sectors under one roof. Looking at the biotechnological strengths of PBTI Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, GoI had notified it as National Referral Laboratory (NRL) for LMO/GMO detection.
