Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) senior leader and legislator Kultar Singh Sandhwan has alleged that the wheat being distributed by the government to the poor and ‘dalit’ beneficiaries under ‘Atta-Daal’ scheme in the state was not fit for human consumption.Sandhwan, who is also state Kisan wing chief, along with Mahal Kalan MLA, Kulwant Singh Pandori, on Thursday submitted a memorandum to food and supply minister of Punjab, Bharat Bhushan Ashu, urging him to look into the matter and plug the snags in the ‘Atta-Daal’ scheme and stamp out corruption in the system.Sandhwan informed on the occasion that he had been to certain villages under Faridkot district to take stock of the distribution of food items under the scheme, stating that the situation was unnerving. Giving an eye-witness account of Kuharwala village in the district, Sandhwan said that the wheat being distributed among the beneficiaries there was of poor quality and was unfit for human consumption. The AAP leader said that there had been high level corruption in the scheme where the beneficiaries were being treated as second rate citizens, stating that the people facing harassment in getting new smart card made. He alleged that the requisite forms to get new smart cards issued were not available in the respective office or panchayats, alleging that the ruling Congress Party’s ‘touts’ were running the show, leaving the poor beneficiaries rue in resignation.
