Congress candidate from Shri Anandpur Sahab parliamentary constituency Manish Tewari today demanded registration of an FIR against the Akali MP Prem Singh Chandumajra for cheating an NRI, Jaspreet Singh Sidhu, of Rs one crore.Replying to a question, during an informal interaction with reporters after addressing a public meeting in Morinda, about a video being circulated where the victim is heard telling a television channel that Chandumajra had taken Rs one crore from him to get him nominated as a member of the Punjab Human Rights Commission in 2014, Tewari said, the allegations were quite serious and these cannot be simply dismissed. The Congress candidate said, the issue dated back to December 2014. He pointed out, since it was an Akali Dal government in the state at that time, it was obvious that nobody could act against the party MP at that time and the victim kept on crying for justice. He hoped that the authorities will take cognizance of the allegations made by Sidhu and Chandumajra is booked under relevant sections of law for cheating and the matter is investigated at the earliest. When asked as why no action had been taken since it was a Congress government for two years now, Tewari said, he will look into the matter and assured that he will reach out to the victim and ensure that justice is done. The Congress leader lashed out at his Akali opponent for claiming high morale ground while cheating unsuspecting people after promising them appointments and postings. “It is strange that Chandumajra claims himself to be a true follower of the panth, while at the same time he is cheating innocent and unsuspecting people”, he remarked, while hoping that the law will take its own course and the guilty will be punished.Accompanied by Punjab Technical Education Minister and local MLA Charanjit Singh Channi, Tewari addressed several well attended public meetings in the area. He said, there was an overwhelming response from the people and it was obvious that they were going to bid farewell to Modi at the centre and Chandumajra from Shri Anandpur Sahab.
