To apprise about the difficulties being faced by the minorities in Afghanistan, a delegation led by Emma Hardy MP, with Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP and representatives from Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara Southall (Afghan Ekta Society) and United Sikhs today called on UK Immigration Minister Caroline Nokes in Parliament. The delegation handed over a dossier to the Minister highlighting the current difficulties facing the community, following more than one hundred recent attacks against the minorities in Afghanistan. This was disclosed by Tan Dhesi MP in a statement released today. He added that Emma Hardy MP has expressed satisfaction at the initiative of the UK Government to review its country guidance on Afghanistan and informed that they would meet with the Minister again at the end of March to review the situation for Afghan Sikhs and Hindus.Elaborating more Dhesi informed that they had raised the issue last year in Parliament. “Seeking reassurances for the refugees in the UK facing threat of deportation, we have updated the Minister about the desperate plight of Sikhs and Hindus in Afghanistan”, he added. On the occasion Preet Kaur Gill MP stated “I am pleased to hear that the guidance is under review and the All Party Parliamentary Group for British Sikhs will be submitting evidence to that and we will continue to urge the government to commit to not returning any Afghan Sikhs to Afghanistan”.
