Tightening noose around the drug addicts and other miscreants is an important part of Mission Punjab Tandarust under which 89 liquor smugglers are arrested in past 30 days.Stating this in a press release issued here today, SSP Mandhir Singh said that 6714 liters of liquor is recovered in Mansa district and 31 vehicles are seized during these past 30 days.The SSP said that Mission Tandarust Punjab is a kind of exercise under which not only the people involved in smuggling liquor but those breaking law and violating traffic norms too are taken to task."Our chief aim is to straighten up all those involved in anti-social activities especially the smuggling of drugs from across Haryana border," SSP Mandhir said.Divulging more details about this Mission, SP (d) Anil Kumar said that smuggling of drugs through Punjab-Haryana border in Mansa had become a headache for police for past long time. "But we have now controlled it to a great extent and Mansa police is burning night oil to completely eliminate this trend of smuggling through border," Anil Kumar said.He pointed out that out of the total recovery of liquor, 410 kg is laahan (raw material to prepare liquor), 320 liters is illicit liquor and 6272 liters is smuggled liquor of Haryana.

ETO (Excise and Taxation Officer) Manpreet Singh said that their department  also contribute to help the police is recovering illicit liquor. "We also helped in seizing 5 brand new vehicles including 2 motorcycles from Baretta, 1 Honda Activa scooter and Honda City car from Boha and another i-20 car from Boha is recovered which was used for liquor smuggling," Manpreet said.He said that the use of brand new vehicles might be due to the noting down of the registration numbers of vehicles which were earlier involved in the smuggling of liquor. "Police is thoroughly investigating this new trend of using the brand new vehicles in smuggling liquor," Manpreet further said.CIA Incharge-Angrez Singh said that vigil has been increased manifolds at Punjab-Haryana border in Mansa to keep a check over the smuggling of liquor from Haryana to Mansa. He said that the CIA branch of Mansa police have also arrested 18 drug smugglers in past 20 days along with the recovery of liquor, poppy husk and opium worth Rs 9.69 lakh.  He said that jagga Singh has been arrested with 500 illegal tablets.
