Donning a new role, despite of their busy and stressed schedules, some Cops in Jalandhar district have found new creative ways to contribute personally, in Punjab’s war against drugs, along with their basic routine duty as a part of their moral responsibility towards society.Right from penning down poems, ghazals and lyrics to singing songs to aware the people against this curse these cops were rendering exemplary service to the people and society. The basic motivation behind these cops was that this menace could only be wiped out if concerted efforts were made by every strata of the society. Likewise, these officials were also getting constant support by their senior officers who also motivate them for this work.Mr. Ram Pal, the Personal Security Officer (PSO) of the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, was one of such cop who besides rendering his routine duty was writing voraciously against the menace of drugs. An Assistant Sub Inspector in Punjab Police Mr. Ram Pal’s writings in form of catchy slogans and a ghazal against the drugs were making rounds in social media and he makes it a point that more and more people must come forward and join war against drugs. An ardent lover of sports Mr. Ram Pal also uses his free time to hold village level seminars, awareness rallies and other activities to mobilize people against drug.
In the same manner, Assistant Sub Inspector Mr. Satnam Singh posted in CCTV Branch of the Jalandhar Police Commissionerate was also using his artistic skills to spread awareness against drugs. On the directions of Commissioner of Police (CP), he has specially penned a song against the scourge of drugs which he sings often during functions to mark awareness against drugs. A former member of the culture crew constituted by the then Director General of Police Mr. KPS Gill in 1990s, Mr. Satnam Singh’s song was also available on YouTube and was viral on social media also.Meanwhile, lauding the remarkable efforts made by such individuals/ government servants, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma said that it was moral duty of everyone to contribute generously in this drive to save the youth of state from curse of drugs. He said that literature, songs, plays and other such initiatives always leave an indelible imprint on the minds of people and it was good that these cops have come forward to support this noble campaign of the state government. Mr. Sharma also said that such strenuous efforts could only lead to making Punjab a drug free, healthy and prosperous state.Likewise, Commissioner of Police Mr. Praveen Kumar Sinha said that if Punjab was to be made drug free then not only Police but every individual has to play its role in this mass movement. He said that the mass mobilization campaign like Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) could not fructify until and unless all the residents including government officers/ officials do not play their role well. Mr. Sinha said that services of such cops would be further taken to intensify the mass awareness program against drugs at grass root level amongst the people.
