Minister of State for Planning Development, Finance, Law and Labour Employment Ajay Nanda today said that the government is making all out efforts for the scientific disposal of the solid waste in the Holy towns of Katra and district headquarter town Reasi.The Minister said this while chairing a high-level meeting of officers convened to resolve the issues related to solid waste management in Katra and Reasi towns here today.Financial Commissioner Finance, K. B. Aggarwal, Director Urban Local Bodies, Jammu, Sushma Chouhan and District Development Commissioner, Reasi, Prasana G Ramasawami, were present in the meeting.Several decisions were taken to improve the solid waste disposal system. It was decided to explore the possibility of converting solid waste into organic manure by use of chemicals which are not harmful to the human lives.Detailed discussion was held on setting up of Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) at Reasi, black topping of Bus Addas at Katra and Reasi, issues of employees of Municipal Corporations, purchase of garbage lifting vehicles, construction of Sulabh Complex, improvement of drainage system in Katra, shifting of Veterinary Hospital, Reasi, installation of GPS Tracking system and Multi Level Parking Complex coming up at Katra.

The Minister said that the Insulators would be installed at various places and the state- of- art technologies used for effective solid waste management for making the twin towns pollution free. He said that there is impending need for scientific disposal of waste in the cities receiving tourists like Katra and Reasi.Laying emphasis on acceleration of the pace of ongoing works, Ajay Nanda directed the concerned authorities to identify more projects as part of futuristic planning. He said that there is immediate need to take up new projects especially related to solid waste management in Katra and Reasi towns.The Minister while appreciating the efforts made by the Directorate of Urban Local Bodies, Jammu, stressed on generating mass awareness about the importance of cleanliness for attracting more and more tourists and pilgrims to the area. SDM Katra, Neelam Khajuria, Chief Executive Officer, Katra Development Authority (KDA) senior officers of Katra and Reasi Municipal Committees also attended the meeting.
