Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Party Nationalist (DPN) President Ghulam Hassan Mir has asked the state and the central governments to rethink on their aggressive approach toward Kashmir and asked them to involve an inclusive approach in which all the political and civil society groups are made part of the holistic approach to deal with the grim situation in the Valley. In a statement issued to KNS, Ghulam Hassan Mir said, “there is a need to change the attitude and approach toward the people as both the civilians and security forces are our people. We cannot put them adversarial roles. The need is to find a common ground to address the issues”.The past experience, he said, has been that the government-only approach has always backfired. The governments’ perspectives of the situation rarely match with the realities on the ground because of the natural gap that exists between the government and the people in such situations. And the pursuit of bullet for bullet policy, a medieval thought can never deliver justice and peace. The Central government has an added responsibility in dealing with the situation. It should reach out to all the political groups, particularly the opposition, and the civil society groups to hammer out an approach that is directed at saving lives and restoring confidence of the people in the institutions and leadership. That is key to addressing the larger issues, Mir Said. (KNS)
