The incarcerated chairman of Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah Thursday termed the concern expressed by the United Nations and the Amnesty International over the situation in Kashmir as “satisfactory” while expressing hope that world bodies take further steps towards the resolution of this longstanding dispute. The international human rights watchdog Amnesty International India on April 15 said that the two recent videos (on social networking sites) from Jammu and Kashmir appearing to show the use of torture and excessive force by security forces must lead to the prosecution in civilian courts of those suspected to be responsible. In a statement issued to KNS, Shah said New Delhi through its deceitful politics cannot mislead the world on Kashmir and has to come to terms with resolving the dispute. He said Pakistan and the people of Jammu Kashmir have been since last 70 years calling for the intervention of world bodies and nations but Indian in order to cover up its crimes in the held-territory always created hurdles in this regard.

Shah said though it is encouraging that world is keenly observing the situation in Kashmir but no step has been taken to stop the Indian state-sponsored terrorism and barbarity in the region which is increasing with each passing day.“New Delhi and its puppets after facing a humiliating defeat in recent so-called elections have resorted to vengeance against people who are killed, maimed, terrorised, and beaten. Even our students were not spared and excessive force was used against them. This is a matter of serious concern,” he said. The pro-freedom leader said if UN wants to save our new generation from Indian barbarity, it has to rise above the statements.Shah said Kashmir dispute is one of the oldest disputed in the UN awaiting resolution and should be resolved by implementing the resolutions passed in the Security Council of the world body.“These resolutions provide a strong base to our struggle but UN has so far failed in implementing these. We still have pinned our hopes on this organisation that it resolves the outstanding disputes of the world including Palestine, Kashmir, Syria, Iraq, Chechnya, and Myanmar,” Shah said. (KNS)
