Punjab Tourism Department Bags ‘Better Performing Project Award 2015’ : Sohan Singh Thandal

The Tourism and Cultural Affairs Department, Punjab achieved yet another milestone by bagging “Better Performing Project Award 2015” for the successful implementation of Infrastructure Development and Investment programs. Sohan Singh Thandal, Cultural Affairs Minister, Punjab congratulated the officers and staff working on the projects for achieving the notable feat. Mr. Thandal said that with the completion of these projects, tourism sector in the State will get a boost and the pace of development shall also be accelerated.Divulging the details Mr. Thandal said that under these projects, conservation works in historical sites like Gobindgarh Fort in Amritsar and construction of Attari Parking, Amritsar Municipal Corporation building and development of Keshopur wetland are nearing completion.

Owing to the better performance of these projects in Punjab, the Department of Tourism, Government  of Punjab has been conferred '2015 Better Performing Project Award' by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Department of Economic Affairs (DoE), Government of India.An official spokesperson said that the progress of Infrastructure Development and Investment program for Tourism (IDIPT) being implemented by the State with the assistance of Asian Development Bank (ADB) was reviewed in a meeting by the Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India and ADB last week in New Delhi. He said that progress of the tourism projects being implemented through the Punjab Heritage and Tourism Promotion Board was also reviewed.Ms. Anjali Bhawra, Principal Secretary, Tourism briefed DoE, Govt. of India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) about the progress achieved under the projects.  After reviewing the performance of Punjab Tourism Department in the successful implementation of these projects '2015 Better Performing Project Award' was conferred upon the state.
