New Delhi(IANS) , 30 Jan 2014

The protesting contractual employees of the Delhi government must return to their jobs or face the consequences, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said Thursday."I met them (protesters) personally and assured them that I will resolve the issue soon. I've asked four months time from them but they want me to take action within 24 hours which is not possible," Kejriwal said, presenting his one-month-old government's report card."They must return to their jobs immediately and those who do not comply will not be considered later during the regularisation process," he said.

The chief minister said the government has formed a committee to analyse the number of contractual workers in every department. It will submit its report within a month."The Supreme Court has said that we cannot regularise people through the back door and the candidates will be screened properly and only then will they be regularised. We sympathise with them but they'll have to be patient.""If hundreds of employees go on strike, it will cause inconvenience to the people of Delhi which is not acceptable," he said.Employees of the Delhi Transport Corp (DTC), Delhi University and the municipal corporation have been agitating for the end of the contractual system that denies them permanent jobs and the resultant perks.
