Speaker Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today launched multiple development works at various localities across Jammu. These works include development of lanes and drains, blacktopping in the areas of Model Town and Gangyal, renovation of parks in Sainik Colony, repair and restoration of nallas in Gangyal, Sainik Colony and other areas.Interacting with the locals during his visit, Kavinder said that in the last one and a half year of the present government, we have strived to provide people with all the basic amenities necessary to live a healthy life and concerted efforts are on to meet the demands of the people related to water and power supply, lanes and drains, cleanliness and sanitation, he added. Directing the concerned departments for immediately starting the renovation works of the park in Sainik Colony, Kavinder said that completion of this park will provide the inhabitants with an encouraging environment to exercise, socialize and will help promote and maintain healthy lifestyles especially for kids and elderly, senior citizens etc.
Commenting that parks are a wise community investment, the Speaker said “in the new age of television and computers, the children are moving towards an unhealthy way of life where they’d rather play with their thumbs on the remote than go outside and indulge in physical sports”. “As much as indoor games promote mental growth, the overall development of a child is incomplete without a parallel focus on physical development and regular exposure to natural elements”, he added.With the focused attention of the government towards development of parks and playgrounds, Kavinder affirmed that exposure to nature improves psychological and social health among children and adults.“We have to ensure that the plain novelty in a grandparent taking a grandchild to the park in the evening and spending time together with nature is not absorbed and lost in our modern lifestyles” he reckoned.During the visits to various localities, the people also apprised the speaker of the problems being faced by the inhabitants of the areas. Making note of all the concerns brought to his notice, the speaker assured to look into the issues and ensure an early redressal of the same.The Speaker was accompanied by senior officers of concerned departments.
