Inaugurating Krishi Guru Trophy T-20 series going to be played between Cricket council of India and Cricket Council of Sri Lanka today at International Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, Chandigarh, the Governor of Punjab, Haryana and Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Prof. Kaptan singh Solanki said that he was happy to learn that apart from the International Cricket body ICC and its affiliated national cricket boards, there exists informal organizations like the cricket Council of India and the Dubai based Asian Cricket Federation which were giving a platform to talented cricketers, who could not be included in the national or state teams, to showcase their talent at professionally organized tournaments.

The Governor said that he was told that since its inception in 2009, Cricket Council of India, which has affiliates all across the country, has organized two groups, which is commendable. This is the first India tour by a foreign team. He said that Chandigarh Administration has created world-class facilities in different disciplines of sports and the players must optimally use all these facilities for achieving the best results in National and International events. He said that games and sports are necessary and useful for all and sports helps in character building, physical fitness and also teaches discipline and self reliance to students.Earlier, the Governor met with players of both the teams who are going to play three T-20 matches.Promient amongst others who were present on the occasion included Mr. Baltej Singh, Chairman, CCI, Mr. Varinder Pal Singh Bedi, Chief Patron, Mr. R.S. Dandiwal, General Secretary and Mr. Amit Vasist.
