Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Punjab President Shri Kamal Sharma today minced no words in condemning Congress leader Shashi Tharoor for comparing Shaheed-E-Azam Bhagat Singh with Kanhaiya Kumar, JNU Students’ Union President. Shri Sharma, who was in city to launch the Party's Tiranga Yatra, said that March 23 is the martyrdom day of the Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev, who gave supreme sacrifice fighting for 'Bharat Ki Azadi'. "Unfortunately, the tribute given by Tharoor and Congress to these martyr's by comparing Kanhaiya with the legendary Bhagat Singh is ridiculous and a shameful act. This is sheer insult to our great martyr that has hurt the people nationwide", asserted BJP Chief.
Addressing the gathering of the party leaders and workers at Jyoti Chowk, Shri Sharma further said that Kanhaiya, who is yet to come clean on the sloganeering, "Bharat Ki Barbadi Tak Jung Rahegi", in JNU, being compared with Shaheed Bhagat Singh has left the entire country outraged. Strongly lambasting the Congress for standing with the anti-national people, Shri Sharma pointed out that earlier All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice-President Rahul Gandhi had went to JNU, extending his whole-hearted support and solidarity with Kanhaiya, who was arrested on sedition charges and is out on bail.Shri Sharma said that now today, Rahul had met Kanhaiya at his official residence, which puts a rubber stamp on the fact that Congress is working against the country's national interests. "Now, it is amply clear that Tharoor had gone to JNU, as a messenger of Congress Vice-President. No wonder now Tharoor equates Rahul with Mahatama Gandhi", he stated. Shri Sharma further said, "The message is loud and clear - Congress is now openly pampering anti-national ideology and those pursuing it."
Shri Sharma argued that it was Kanhaiya, who had said in JNU that Kashmir women are raped by armed forces security personnel, adding, "Disgustingly, Tharoor has equated him with Shaheed Bhagat Singh, whereas Rahul extending him complete backing of Congress by meeting him personally at his residence." Shri Sharma demanded that the Congress party must come out with categorical statement, as to whether it subscribes to what Tharoor had said or not. "Rahul Gandhi, Tharoor and Congress owe apology to the whole country", he said. Earlier, Shri Sharma alongwith other party leaders started Tiranga Yatra from Jyoti Chowk and reached Company Bagh Chowk, where he addressed and effigy of Tharoor was burnt as a mark of protest.
