Punjab BJP president Shri Kamal Sharma has welcome the decision taken by the Punjab Cabinet for giving nod for the land requirement for setting up a satellite centre of the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) at Ferozepur. In a release issued here today, Shri Sharma said that it was untiring efforts and regular perusal by him for getting the land that has bore desired results.Shri Sharma stated that with the cabinet decision paving way for the transfer of 5.5-acre land to the Union Health Ministry, one of the most important project of having a PGI Centre at Ferozepur, would soon see the light of the day.

Shri Sharma further said: "It is a landmark decision and a big thing for Malwa region in general and Ferozepur in particular that a PGI Centre would come up. It was long pending demand of the people that a good health institution like PGI should come up so that cancer patients should not struggle to go to far off places for the treatment."Shri Sharma added that coming up of the PGI would surely provide immense relief to the people suffering from cancer in this region, who had to go to far-flung areas for the treatment, in absence of any dedicated health institute for the killer cancer. It is worth mentioning that Shri Sharma was pursuing the matter with both the centre and state from past few years. Earlier, Shri Sharma had taken up the matter with the then Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan and then with the present incumbent J.P.Nadda, besides regularly following it up with the Punjab government. He was personally monitoring the status of the centre and the land requirement matter, which was due with the state government.
