Stressing on sustained efforts to promote horticulture in the district, Deputy Chairman of J&K Legislative Council, Jahangir Hussain Mir has asked the horticulture authorities  to encourage farmers for growing high quality fruit products to fetch attractive returns.During  his visit to Azamabad and Attoli villages of block Mandi, Mr. Mir was apprized by the horticulture experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch about the scope of temperate fruit crops in the area. They emphasized on growing temperate fruit crops through drip irrigation. The IWMP Technical Officers identified the site for water storage under Entry Point Activity (EPA). The officers of IWMP informed the Deputy Chairman that two community based water tanks will be built in the area at the cost of Rs. 3 lacs.  District Horticulture Officer, Iqbal Bhatti, Block Development Officer, Yar Ali Khan, Scientists from KVK Poonch and officers of IWMP accompanied the Deputy Chairman.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chairman also visited Primary School Gali Azamabad and Middle School and Dispensary at Azamabad and took stock of their functioning.Mr. Mir noted with dismay the negligent attitude of teachers who had not checked the notebooks of the students properly. He also directed the school authorities to improve serving of MDM to students and ensure hygienic condition of kitchens. Mr. Mir also directed ZEO Sathra to conduct frequent field visits to monitor the functioning of schools. Besides, the Deputy Chairman instructed the health authorities to address the problem of inadequate supply of medicine in the area.Expressing concerns over delay in completion of Azamabad to Attoli road and bridge at Azamabad, the Deputy Chairman asked the authorities to terminate contract of non-serious and under-performing contractors. He instructed the concerned authorities to expedite the work on these projects.
