Expressing serious disappointment over the unnecessary delay in incrementing the honorarium of Special Police Officials (SPOs), CPI (M) State Secretary Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami has said the SPOs are equal to their regular counterparts in discharging their duties so there should be no discrimination with them.In a statement issued to KNS, Tarigami said that the SPOs were expecting a passionate consideration of their pending demands but the government has only addressed the ration money problem faced by the police force and other important demands have not been considered to the much annoyance especially for SPOs.

Tarigami said delaying the enhancement of remuneration of SPOs and their regularization is a mater fo serious concern as a large number of educated unemployed youth have opted for this job keeping its promotional prospects into consideration. “The state government must seriously pursue the matter of enhancement of honorarium of SPOs from present Rs 3000 to 5000 per month submitted to ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India for concurrence,” Tarigami said, while demanding the comprehensive policy formulated in 2009 for the absorption of SPOs as constables/ Followers by reserving 15%  posts  in the general recruitment be implemented in letter and spirit.

The CPI (M) leader urged the government to consider the provision of ‘Compassionate Appointment’ under SRO-43 for Kith and Kin of SPO killed in militancy related incidents. (KNS)
