Srinagar , 19 Apr 2013

Police today  foiled the attempt of JKLF activists to stage protest at Lal Chowk after congregation prayers. Witnesses said that JKLF activists led by their chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik took out a procession from Maisuma as soon as the activists reached near Budshah Chowk a huge contingent of police intercepted them and dispersed them. At least 17 JKLF activists including Malik were arrested and lodged at Kothibagh Police Station. Pertinently, Yasin Malik, had earlier this week said that he would lead a protest on the call of Muthaida Majlis Mashawarat, an amalgam of separatist parties, to seek return of the mortal remains of Muhammad Afzal Guru, who was hanged at Tihar Jail in New Delhi on February 9, 2013.
