Ever Increasing population is a serious matter for our country and society, if we are failed to control our population then we will have to face serious consequences in future.On the occasion of State level function regarding “World Population Day”, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mr. Brahm Mohindra said that our country's population was about 36 crores in 1947, which was rapidly increased and now, the population of the country touched the figure of 125 crores. By 2025, our country would be placed at top of world having largest population.Minister said that health department would provide the benefits of all schemes concerning family planning programme to control the population in the state. He said that officials and employees, who will serve good performance, be honored by the state government.Mr. Mohindra said that the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Punjab Captain Amarinder Singh is committed to providing quality health services to the poor and needy people of the state. We will fulfill the expectations of the poor people through good governance and quality health services. He said that the government had also announced an award of Rs. 50 lakh for government hospitals, dispensaries and primary health centers, which will maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the institute.

He said that that the “Kayakalp” initiative will encourage every public health facility in the state to work towards standards of excellence to help the facilities stay clean and hygienic.The three villages of S.A.S. Nagar, which displayed the good performance under family health programme, were specially honoured on the occasion. Three ANMs and LHVs were also honoured for showing good performance.Addressing the gathering on the occasion, local MLA Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu said that World Population Day has a great significance and we have to organize the workshop and seminars to create awareness among the people. He said that an awareness campaign should also be initiated in the slum areas to educate people about family planning methods. He further said that the family planning program should be taken to the rural and remote areas so that the population would be controlled on priority basis.Speaking on the occasion, Special Secretary-cum-Mission Director, National Health Mission Punjab, Mr. Varun Rojam said that due to the increasing population in the country, we are facing serious problems, which has also adversely affected our economy. He said that we have to work responsibly to control the population.
