Condemning the forcible removal of the Gurmail Sigh, husband of “Golden Girl” Hockey Olympian Rajbir Kaur, who joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) recently, AAP today termed it another example of “Cheap Politics” by Akalis.Releasing a joint statement by In-charge of AAP’s affairs in Punjab, Sanjay Singh and Chairman of Campaign Committee and MP Bhagwant Mann stated that Akalis are getting frustrated with the massive support which AAP is getting from masses in Punjab and earlier Modi NDA led union government was indulged in such ‘tactics’, now Akalis have stooped new low in playing ‘Cheap Politics”.
“Since Rajbir Kaur is an active leader of the party, her husband was politically targeted by Akalis and even did not spare Hockey Olympian Gurmail Singh, who brought laurels by winning sole Gold Medal for Indian Hockey Team in 1980”, AAP leaders alleged.It is pertinent to mention here that Gurmail Singh, who was in the 1980 hockey team that brought home a gold medal from Olympics, a silver medal in the 1982 Asian Games and a bronze medal in the 1982 Champions Trophy, was posted as Commandant of the 80th Battalion of the Punjab Armed Police, Jalandhar.Gurmail was forcibly retired on the ‘political instructions’ citing an old case against him while he was posted as SP in Moga.Sanjay Singh said that SAD-BJP has already sensed a humiliating defeating in 2017 assembly polls and thus stooped so low to target everyone, who supports and join AAP. “Enough is enough, this is what people feel and they are waiting for a right opportunity to push the Right Button of AAP to throw Akalis out of power”, AAP leaders said.
