Minister of State for Education, Information & Culture, Priya Sethi today paid visit to Anantnag district and inspected several educational institutions including Government College for Women, Anantnag, Government Girls High School and Boys Middle School, Mattan.MLC Sofi Yusuf, Director Colleges, Prof. Tariq Ahmed Qawoos, Principal Government College for Women, Dr. Muzaffar Khan, Chief Education Officer, Anantnag, Mushtaq Ahmed Salroo and other concerned officers of the education department accompanied the Minister.During her visit to GCW Anantnag, the Minister went around various departments, laboratories, under-construction college auditorium, canteen; sports ground and also took stock of the facilities. She also reviewed reconstruction work of damaged college infrastructure which was damaged due to last year’s floods. She issued directions for speeding up the work so that it is completed in a time bound manner. She also directed for making college auditorium functional within a period of one month. The Minister also gave instructions for maintaining proper sanitation in the college canteen and ensuring quality of food items and directed for regular monitoring of quality of eatables served in the canteen.

While interacting with the Principal and other faculty members, the Minister stressed the need for maintaining punctuality and discipline in the institution and focus on providing quality education to the students. She urged the management to explore possibilities to introduce job oriented vocational and skill development courses side by side for the students enabling them to earn their livelihood immediately after moving out from the College. She also called for mooting a proposal for adding more professional degree courses in the college which have a growing market demand.

During the inspection of schools, the Minister directed for improving the standard of education and improving the results. She also stressed for ensuring all basic facilities to the students, with special focus on sanitation, adding that the teachers must instill sense of responsibility, discipline and moral ethics in the students. She said that Coalition Government was striving for improving the enrolments and quality of education in the Government schools and various reformative steps have been initiated. She called upon the teachers to put on their best efforts to improve the results and make the Government schools competitive with private sector.Later, the Minister paid obeisance at Surya Temple Martand, Mattan and prayed for peace and tranquility in the State. She also interacted with Shri Amarnath Yatris and Purohit Sabha Martand and took stock of the facilities available for the devotees. President of the Sabha, Pt. Ashok Kumar Sidha welcomed the Minister and briefed about the functioning of the temple.
