A delegation of Punjab Roller Floor Mills Association today called on Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal to apprise him the difficulties being faced by roller floor mills located in Punjab due to tax structure.They pleaded that roller floor mills located in Punjab have to pay 5% purchase tax on wheat brought from Food Corporation of India and on processing of wheat into Atta they have to pay 5% VAT. They pointed out that in the neighbouring non-wheat producing states neither purchase tax was imposed on the roller floor mills nor were they paying any VAT on it. They informed that they were getting cheaper wheat from FCI and after processing into flour they were selling their produce in Punjab at lower rate than our rates. They informed that floor mills in Punjab are facing crisis due to unfriendly tax structure and sought the intervention of Deputy Chief Minister to rectify the same.The Deputy Chief Minister assured them to look into their demand and also to study the legal implications of their demands.Anil Joshi, Industry Minister, A.R. Talwar, Secretary Industries and A. Venu Prasad, Excise & Taxation Commissioner were also present in the meeting.
