The Sericulture Development Department Kulgam today organized one day Kissan Mela at Town Hall Kulgam under centrally sponsored scheme Advanced Technology Management Agency (ATMA) in which 200 progressive farmers participated.The Deputy Commissioner while presiding over the function urged the farmers to use latest technology to increase the Cocoon production in the district.It was given out in the function that the Sericulture Development Department has distributed as many as 50 lakhs mulberry plants among the farmers besides the annual cocoon production of the district had reached up to 22,000 kgs which had fetched an income of Rs. 45 lakhs to the farmers of the district. Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Director Sericulture Department Kashmir informed that efforts are being made to modernize the department so that the progressive farmers will get good quality seeds and marketing facilities.On the occasion, the District Development Commissioner distributed the cheques worth Rs. 2 lakhs among the 13 progressive farmers.
