The ‘lack of coordination’ among Army units operating in South Kashmir claimed the lives of two Army soldiers in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday night. Defence sources told CNS that a unit of 42 Rashtriya Riffles had inputs that a militant group led by Hizb commander Burhan Wani was supposed to pass through the area. “Without any delay an ambush was laid during late hours. During the time of ambush, a patrolling party from the same Unit passed through the area. The ambush party mistook the patrolling party as militants and they fired upon them. The patrolling party thought the same and they retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight two soldiers were killed and another soldier was injured.”

He said that it was misunderstanding as militants in recent past in the videos uploaded on social networking sites have given an impression they roam freely while donning combat uniforms. He said that a probe into the incident has been ordered and within days the facts will be established. General Officer Commanding 15 Chinar Corps, Lieutenant General Sabrata Saha said that it was a sheer misunderstanding and mistaken identity. “It was an unfortunate incident and mere a misunderstanding between the two units led to the death of the two soldiers,” he said. The deceased soldiers have been identified as NK Mohan Boro and Sepoy Lal Chanhlima Ghatak.
