Urging upon the government not to generalize the ‘screening test’ issue of ReT teachers, legislator and CPI(M) state leader Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami Tuesday said that only those teachers with fake degrees should be shown door while rest of the teachers should be encouraged and an improvement classes should be organized to boost their moral and capability.

Addressing a press conference at Chawalgam Rest House of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Tarigami said that it is a welcome step from the government to take some corrective measures in ailing education sector but at the same time government should not put all the teachers in trouble. “It is disgraceful for a teacher at this stage to appear in a screening test but at the same time if no teacher has right to dupe the government and ruin the careers of students if he is in possession of fake degrees,” he said adding that government should also take stern action against the educational institutions which are found responsible for issuing fake degrees.

Responding to a question, Tarigami said, "while Jammu region is within its right to ask for another AIIMS for the region, the people of Kashmir also have a right to press for setting up of institutions like IIT, IIM and IIMC which have been exclusively established in Jammu. To another question, Tarigami according to CNS said that CPIM had opposed the move of the government of India to execute Muhammad Afzal Guroo and Yakub Memon. Describing the execution of Bombay serial blast accused Yakoob Memon as unfortunate, he said that it would have served the ends of justice if Yakoob Memons death penalty would have been commuted to life sentence. “His execution we feel will not help in combating terrorism. Even those convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi Assassination case with the death sentences have had their sentence commuted to life,” Tarigami said adding that the execution of Guroo was also unjustified.
