A Station House Officer was among four persons injured after militants opened fire at them near Mirgund Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday evening.Official sources told Global News Service (GNS) that a police party headed by SHO Pattan Inspector Mohammad Salim Mir came under attack at around 8:45 p.m. when the police team asked a private Tavera vehicle ((JK01Q-8792) to stop near Mirgund where naka check point was erected. They said that two to three militants travelling in the vehicle, opened indiscriminate pistol fire at the police party, resulting in injuries to the SHO Mohammad Salim, his PSO Dilshad, Constable Manzoor Ahmad and driver of the private vehicle Hilal Ahmad Gojri son of Ghulam Mohammad of Pattan.
While the injured were evacuated to different hospitals, the militants abandoned the vehicle and managed to flee from the spot, they said.The SHO has been shifted to military hospital while the constable and the driver were admitted to JVC Bemina and SMHC hospital Srinagar respectively. DIG north Kashmir Gareeb Das confirmed the incident to GNS that SHO, two policemen and the civilian driver were injured in the attack.Soon after the incident, he said, entire area was cordoned off by police and 2 RR of army to track down the fleeing attackers.He said all the entry and exit points of the Srinagar-Baramulla highway have been put on alert.Regarding the civilian driver, he said, initial investigation revealed that the gunmen had boarded the vehicle without revealing identity. When he stopped near the naka point, he said, militants opened fired at the driver also, causing injuries to him. (GNS)
