Flag Day Celebration of Bharat Scouts and Guides was held at Raj Bhawan here today. Smt Urmila Singh, Governor who is also the Patron of Bharat Scouts and Guides was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Smt Urmila Singh stressed upon channelizing the energy of youth towards nation building activities and added that youth play a significant role in the progress of the country. She said that they could bring about effective changes in the society by taking active part in various awareness campaigns which included health, literacy and environment protection. Governor said that children were future citizens of the country therefore they should be aware, sincere and responsible and added that Bharat Scout and Guides Movement should be strengthened further by associating more children and youth as it was contributing towards making them independent, self reliant besides inculcating the spirit of patriotism. Smt Singh lauded the role of Bharat Scout and Guides Movement as its activities were aimed at developing the full potential of youth besides broadening their vision. She added that cultural exchange programmes of the organization were promoting harmony in the society and strengthening national unity. She said that Bharat Scout and Guides was also inculcating values like discipline and sense of responsibility among youth and inspiring them to work selflessly for the nation. Earlier, Governor visited Flower Show Exhibition put up by the Scouts and Guides. She also contributed towards their fund which would be utilized for the service of humanity to mark the Flag day celebrations. She also gave away prizes to the participants of various cultural programmes on the occasion. A colourful cultural programme was also presented to mark the celebrations. Sh Dinkar Burathoki, Director Higher Education and State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides welcomed the Governor and detailed about the activities of the organization. Dr J S Negi State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides proposed vote of thanks. Sh Neeraj Bharti, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Sh R.D. Dhiman Principal Secretary Education, Officers and officials of Education department and Bharat Scouts and Guides were present on the occasion. About 300 Scouts and Guides from Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan and Una districts participated in the celebrations.
