Minister of State for Education, Information and Culture, Priya Sethi on her last day visit of Leh today chaired a seminar on the topic “Bharat Nirman Me Mahilaun Ki Bhumika” organized by Ladakh Phandey Tsogspa at Shenam Community Hall as chief guest. Addressing packed hall of women from nearby villages of Leh, Priya Sethi applauded the Ladakh Women Alliance (LWA) for their active participation in development of modern Ladakh and at the same time also retaining the traditional culture and moral values of Ladakhi society.She also spoke about the exemplary endeavor and achievement of LWA in banning Polythene in Leh. She expressed pleasure that during her visit to Degree College and schools in Leh, she found 90% of students are girls and said that it is sign of a civilized and aware society.

Highlighting the invaluable role of legendary women like Rani of Jansi, Indra Nooyi, Kalpana Chawla, Indra Gandi, Mother Teresa, Pratibha Patil etc in the progress of our nation, Sethi said that women in India enjoy equal status with men in all aspects of life and encouraged the women of Ladakh to also join politics.All India Mahila Samanuay Parmukh Su-Shri,  Geeta Tai Gundey who was the main speaker in the seminar said that since time immemorial women has had great respect in India and today also she has equal role and responsibility in nation building. Speaking about the rich Ladakhi culture, tradition and values, she appealed the women of Ladakh to nourish these values while working in the modern setup. She also stressed for strengthening government schools in villages of Ladakh and for improvement of these schools, she suggested forming committees of Mothers in every village to take care of these schools.

President Ladakh Women Alliance, Rinchen Angmo, who was the guest of honour on the occasion elaborated in detail about the achievements and initiatives of LWA since 20 years in Ladakh. She said that at present more than 5000 women members are registered with LWA from different parts of Ladakh including Zanskar, Nubra and Changthang.Earlier, welcoming the guests, Tsering Tsomo President Ladakh Phandey Tsogspa (LPT) women wing explained in detail about LPT since its establishment in 1997. Sonam Ladol of Ladakh Phandey Tsogspa gave vote of thanks. Later in in the afternoon, the Minister visited Hemis Monastery, the largest and wealthiest monastery of Ladakh.
