Miffed at the role of electronic media, Hurriyat Conference headed by Syed Ali Shah Geelani Thursday asked the journalists for working for Indian news channels to “refrain from distorting facts” otherwise “the amalgam would expose” before public.“We have no grudges with Indian news channels since they act as mouth piece of R&AW and IB. But, the role of reporters who report for these channels from Srinagar is disappointing for Kashmiri nation…and they present the bad picture of their own nation before world,” a statement issued by the Hurriyat read. The amalgam said during its meeting of Majlis-e-Shura or Advisory Council, the reporters and correspondents, who “indulge in distorting the facts” were discussed. “And, it was stated that if they won’t stop their criminal role, we will expose them by their names,” the statement said, adding, the events which were “misrepresented” were also discussed.

Meanwhile, a leader of Geelani’s amalgam told Srinagar-based news agency GNS that basically they want to “send a message” to the journalists working with Indian news channels.“We hope they will mend their ways and won’t present bad picture of their people. We don’t have any personal grudge with them and we don’t want to fight with them,” he said, adding: “all we want them is to build public pressure on them and make them realize that they are not doing good.”In reply to a question, he said: “we are aware of their compulsions and we know that not everyone indulges in misreporting but there are many whose commentary is full of hate.” (GNS)
