Rakhra Disburses Cheques Worth Rs. 1.50 Crore To Three Government Colleges

Punjab Higher Education and Language Minister Surjit Singh Rakhra today handed over cheques worth Rs. 1.50 crore to three Government Colleges at Punjab Bhawan Chandigarh. This amount would be spent on providing state of the art ultra modern facilities to the colleges.During this occasion Mr. Rakhra distributed the cheques of Rs. 50 lakh each to the Principals of Government College Mohali, Government College for Girls, Ludhiana and Government College Hoshiarpur. Mr. Rakhra said that under Rashtriya Uchh Sikhya Abhiyan (RUSA) an amount of Rs. 4 crore each college has been earmarked and out of this the first installment of 25 percent of the total amount has been today handed over to the colleges. He said that this amount has been given to the colleges for the upgradation of the existing infrastructure, constructions of new smart class rooms and procurement of lab equipments, etc.

Mr. Rakhra said that the government has decided to release Rs. 4 crore each to 3 government colleges and Rs 2 crore each to 37 colleges in order to provide quality and cost effective higher education. He said that 37 colleges have already received the amount of 25-25 lakhs as their first installment. Prominent among others who were present at the occasion included Principal Secretary, Higher Education Mr. Roshan Shunkaria and Director RUSA Mr. T.K.Goyal.
