New Chandigarh To Be Developed As Hi-Tech City: Sukhbir Badal

Deputy Chief Minister Punjab, Sukhbir Singh Badal said that Mullanpur Township as New Chandigarh would be developed as a futuristic township with high-tech facilities. He said the road grid of the Mullanpur city would be in total synchronization with master plan and road network would be planned keeping in view the pressure of development for next 50 years. He said medi-city and edu-city to be developed in the vicinity of Mullanpur would have world class hospitals and universities along with their campus. He said that edu-city would be developed on the pattern of Oxford University. Cautioning about mushrooming of unauthorized or non-sanctioned colonies in the Mullanpur planned area, Mr Badal said that it was imperative for the authorities to check the growth of un-authorized construction with stern hand.Referring to the Transit plan for the coming up project, Mr. Badal said that transit plan for New Chandigarh would be finalized focusing on well planned sectoral grid and roads widened from 100 ft to 200 ft. For better connectivity the new town would have four main roads connected with Mohali, Chandigarh, Panchkula, Zirakpur, Baddi, Kharar, Sirhind and Airport .There would be one metro junction and two metro stations in the local planning area (LPA).

With big projects like Educity and Medicity, about four 200-ft-wide connecting roads, metro terminal, residential projects like DLF, OMAXE, Altius etc, PCA cricket stadium and a civic and community centre. He also said that about 2,200 acres of land for the town's expansion has already been acquired. The land would be allotted for Educity, Medicity and Ecocity projects and for widening of roads. Adding further, he said that maximum transit nodal hubs would be created especially keeping in mind the forthcoming IT sectors around Chandigarh.Reviewing the progress of the Master plan of Mullanpur as New Chandigarh, Mr. Badal said that it would be developed as a world class planned city “equipped with the good infrastructure and ultra modern facilities,” .The Punjab government was in the process of finalizing the master plan of New Chandigarh. The consultants have been engaged and the fine tuned master plan would be ready within four months.Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Deputy Chief Minister Punjab while presiding over a high level meeting said that master plan was being envisaged to make New Chandigarh a hi-tech city with proper zoning so that enough employment avenues could be generated in the coming up IT hub and trade centres.Badal asked the officers to ensure that planning of the city was done meticulously after thorough and diligent study so that the work on this ambitious project was completed in a time bound manner.Prominent amongst others who were present in the meeting included Mr. A.Venu Prasad, Secretary Housing and Urban Development Punjab, Mr. P.S.Aujla Principal Secretary to Deputy CM, Mr. Manvesh Singh Sidhu, Special Principal Secretary to Deputy CM and other senior officers of the department.
