Srinagar , 10 Dec 2014

On World Human Rights Day, Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Wednesday said that the display of “dictatorial tactics under the garb of democracy and usurping of the rights of people by dint of military force by the state authorities should serve as an eye opener for the international community and human rights organizations.”In a statement a spokesman of Hurriyat (M) said Mirwaz was scheduled to address a seminar in Srinagar on the eve world human rights day on December 10, “but he was prevented by the authorities to participate in the said event who placed him under house arrest since Tuesday.”

Sternly condemning the government step of sabotaging the seminar and protesting the gross human rights violations in Kashmir ‘committed by Indian troops’, Mirwaiz said that on this day, the world was observing this day to renew their pledge to protect the human rights, but the situation in Kashmir was contrary to that.“On one hand Indian state and state authorities were freely committing rights violations against the innocent Kashmiris, and on the other, they have put a ban on people to peacefully protest against the crimes committed by the state against them. It was highly surprising and a cause of concern that authorities not only terrorized the Taj hotel Management in Lal Chowk- venue of the seminar- asking them not to rent space for the Hurriyat seminar, but all the Hurriyat leaders who were about to participate in the seminar were arrested and lodged in police stations,” he said.

Following the ‘sabotaging’ of the seminar on Wowld Human Rights day, a protest demonstration was held under the leadership of senior Hurriyat (M) leader Moulana Abbas Ansari. The other leaders who participated in the demo include Musadiq Adil, GN Zaki, Advocate Shahid-ul-Islam, Syed Saleem Geelani, Javaid Ahmad Mir, Abdul Manan Bukhari, GN Nagoo, Abdul Rashid Untoo, Jaffer Kashmiri, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Ghulam Qadir Beg, Mohammad Shafi Khan, Mushatq Sofi, and number of people participated in the protest.During the protest demo, Hurriyat’s Human Rights cell also released a report documenting human rights violation in 2014.Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman has strongly condemned the house arrest of Mirwaiz and arrest of Hakim Abdul Rashid and shifting him to central jail Srinagar. The spokesman also denounced the sabotaging of seminar by the authorities.
