Coal block scam: CBI registers fresh case

The CBI Sunday registered a fresh case against Jindal Steel and Power Ltd. (JSPL) and "unknown" public servants in the ongoing coal block allocation case, an official said, adding searches were conducted in Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh.The case has been registered against JSPL for exceeding lease of coal mining from one of the blocks of Gare Palma IV coal block."The allegations pertain to irregular mining lease beyond the approved area, excess coal mining, sale of coal, sale of coal fines and rejects, and irregular consumption of coal in new extension plants," the CBI official said.

JSPL has been booked for cheating, criminal breach of trust and sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

With this, the number of cases lodged by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the coal blocks allocation has gone up to 36.The CBI is also conducting searches at four places in Raigarh Sunday.The case relates to the coal blocks allocation during 1993-2005.
