No decline in infiltration attempts, says army

The army on Saturday said there is no decline in infiltration attempts in Kashmir and operations against the militants were on even during floods.“As far as counter-infiltration operation is considered, the infiltration attempts are almost same of the August,” the army’s Srinagar-based15 Chinar Corps Commander, Lt General Subrata Saha, told reporters on the sidelines of a blood donation camp in Sopore area of Baramulla district.Saha said the number of militants which have been killed during counter-infiltration operations in Machil, Keran and Tanghdar sectors reflect the strong counter-infiltration grid of the army.  “The soldiers have answered challenges (of infiltration) successfully,” he said.

The top commander said that the anti-militancy operations were on even during floods.  He said: “You have seen how successfully counter-terrorist operations were carried out even when army was acting against the challenge of flood.” The General said they carried out operations in Hanjan Bala, Handwara in north Kashmir as well as in south Kashmir.He informed that the Line of Control is stable in Kashmir region after two ceasefire violations from 30 September to 4 October.In reply to a question, he said the trend of educated youth joining militancy is disturbing and all security agencies need to pay ‘special attention’ towards it. “Initiatives should be taken so that youth would be constantly engaged towards future.He said initiatives towards building the future of youths should be taken by all and army will also try to do collaborative efforts in this regard.
