Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Monday inaugurated his renovated MLA office in Perambur, marking his first official engagement in the constituency after assuming office. The visit also saw the launch of a dedicated mobile application designed to streamline the redressal of civic grievances for residents of the Assembly segment.

Located on Sharma Nagar First Street in Vyasarpadi, the upgraded constituency office has been equipped to function as a full-fledged public service centre. The facility includes a dedicated office for the Chief Minister, CCTV surveillance, and a 10-member team to receive, process and monitor public petitions on a daily basis.

The office also houses an integrated E-Sevai centre, enabling residents to access a range of government services and civic facilities under one roof. Officials said the newly introduced mobile application would allow people to register complaints related to drinking water supply, electricity, sanitation, roads, streetlights and government welfare schemes, while also enabling them to track the status of their petitions online.

Vijay had contested the recent Assembly election from both Perambur and Tiruchy East and emerged victorious in both constituencies. He later resigned from the Tiruchy East seat and retained Perambur, making the constituency his political base. As part of Monday’s programme, the Chief Minister also launched the State government’s new ration card distribution initiative.

During his visit to a fair price shop in MKB Nagar, he handed over new ration cards to the first 50 eligible beneficiaries, besides distributing essential commodities and land ownership pattas. The Chief Minister also inspected an MTC electric vehicle charging station near the Vyasarpadi Metro Rail station and reviewed passenger amenities at a nearby Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus depot.

Coinciding with the Chief Minister’s visit, the Greater Chennai Corporation has initiated steps to prepare a comprehensive development blueprint for Perambur by floating a Rs 48 lakh tender for a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The proposed integrated area development plan aims to address several long-pending civic issues in the constituency, particularly in densely populated and lower-income neighbourhoods.

The DPR will focus on flood mitigation, improving drinking water infrastructure, easing parking constraints, upgrading roads and restoring the heavily polluted Captain Cotton Canal, with the objective of creating a more resilient and better-planned urban constituency.
