Deputy Commissioner Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting to assess the implementation and progress of Solid Waste Management (SWM) across the district. During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner conducted a detailed review of key components of the Solid Waste Management programme, including door-to-door waste collection, segregation of waste at source, collection of user charges, generation of bills, and the overall operational status of waste management infrastructure across the district.
The Chair stressed the need to ensure 100% door-to-door collection of municipal solid waste, timely realization of user charges, and systematic generation of bills to improve the financial sustainability of the Solid Waste Management system.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the functioning of trommel machines and Plastic Waste Management Plants established in the district. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that all facilities remain fully functional and are operated efficiently for scientific processing and disposal of solid waste.
Emphasizing coordinated efforts, the Deputy Commissioner instructed all BDOs and Executive Officers to strengthen monitoring mechanisms, address operational bottlenecks on priority, and ensure effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules in their respective jurisdictions.
He further directed that regular field inspections be conducted and progress be monitored to achieve improved sanitation and environmental sustainability across the district. The meeting was attended by Additional District Development Commissioner, Altaf Ahmad Khan; Assistant Commissioner Development Kulgam, Bilal Ahmad Kamgar; all Block Development Officers, Executive Officers of the Municipal Committees, and other concerned officers.
